Simoni: “The last Giro del Trentino was the best one” 2010

Giro del Trentino could have been Simoni's last race. After Pampeago's final stage he is doubtful about riding the Giro d'Italia

He will not easily forget this day. Local hero Gilberto Simoni talks about Giro del Trentino’s final stage ended atop Alpe di Pampeago on Friday April 23. “Today I really enjoyed reminiscences of the important victories I took on home roads. It was touching to pass trough my village. The whole Giro del Trentino was like a celebration of my career, a dream that came true”.

Regarding his long career, Simoni said he’s not sure whether to retire or take part in the up-coming 2010 Giro d’Italia. “I have to be calm to take this decision”, Lampre-Farnese’s rider stated. “Chances I do the Giro are fifty-fifty”, he added.

What Simoni knows for sure is that he has enjoyed the Giro del Trentino “and I was very to happy to hear the other riders spending such good words on this event. The entire peloton recognised Giro del trentino as one of the top-class short stage-races in the international scenario. That’s something great!”.

Alexander Vinokourov took a close win in the 34th edition of the Giro del Trentino, with a narrow margin of only 12 hundredth over returning Riccò. “Riccardo showed everyone is one of the most talented riders in the bunch”, Gilberto confirmed.
