Giro del Trentino to end atop Alpe di Pampeago

Giro del Trentino to end atop Alpe di Pampeago International media coverage still growing

From 3/31/10

2010 Giro del Trentino is expected to be a tough and truly interesting sport event. After three demanding stages, including San Martino di Castrozza’s queen stage, the 34th edition of the Italian stage race will end atop the Alpe di Pampeago, on Friday April 23.

Giro del Trentino’s fourth and final stage starts in Arco. The 172.1km race course features the first Mountain Premium of the day after 70km, in Andalo (1041m). Soon after a rapid descent, the riders will head to Cavalese and Tesero before facing the final climb up to the mountain top-finish on the 1760-metre-high Alpe di Pampeago. It is a 7.65km long first-categorized mountain with an average gradient of 10 per cent that will make a great selection in the peloton and will show the overall winner of the Giro del Trentino 2010 edition.

Last year, Team Miche’s Przemyslav Niemec won in Pampeago ahead of Ivan Basso (Liquigas). Polish climber, who recently performed well at the “Coppi&Bartali” stage-race, is determined to double his victory in front of an international crowd that will include a large number of tourists from Poland. Even the official tv commentator from Eurosport-Poland will attend the race.

There is an unprecedented interest from the international media in the 2010 Giro del Trentino and that makes race organizers and sponsors very happy.

One of the main partners of the race is Trentino Spa, responsible of the local marketing strategies and promotion. Another important name that proudly partners the race is TRENTINODOC, a leading brand in the sparkling wine industry. Strong support also comes from Casse Rurali Trentine, a group of small but solid local banks that take care of people and their own business.

Giro del Trentino is also supported by: Forst Beer, Selle Italia, Elite, Eurocar and Graffiti2000.

The official race presentation will be held on Monday April 12 with a press conference in Trento at 11.30am (via Segantini 5, Cassa Centrale delle Casse Rurali Trentine - Sala Don Guetti).
